A Cheech and Chong Cosmic Connection
I hadn't thought about Cheech and Chong in decades. As far as I could recall, I was a kid when the Up in Smoke album1 was released. I remember it came with a giant rolling paper inside. I wondered what ever happened to it? Both the album and the rolling paper. Did my friends and I use the rolling paper? It would be worth a lot of money now, but it probably went up in smoke. Oh wait, never mind. That was Big Bambu2 that came with the giant rolling paper. Regardless, I am sure it went up in smoke.
I saw the movie a few years later, when I was a little older. Then I grew up. I was forced to focus on more serious things than Cheech and Chong. That is, until last week when my friend Arthur mentioned them. As soon as their names rolled off of Arthur's tongue, I searched YouTube seeking a memory. YouTube did not let me down.
I shared a link with Arthur. “Hahahahaha, lol, dog shit!” he texted back. We continued laughing and reminiscing about Cheech and Chong and our own marijuana adventures. It was time travel, in a sense, and we were enjoying it.
One of our favorite sketches was Dave. In the sketch, Cheech visits Chong's apartment. He insists that he is “Dave” whenever Chong asks “Who’s there?” Chong, however, is adamant that "Dave" isn't there. Cheech, convinced he's being misunderstood, continues to insist that he is Dave.
Lost in our laughter and nostalgia, I suddenly remembered Sister Mary Elephant, a hilariously inappropriate nun and substitute teacher. She was a recurring character in Cheech and Chong's comedy sketches. She was probably my introduction to the duo, though I had forgotten about her over the years. How could I have forgotten such a memorable character???
About a week later, I opened Substack and stumbled upon a note referencing Cheech and Chong at the top of my feed! My jaw dropped. Could this be a coincidence? Or was there something more to it? It was some kind of strange synchronicity. I was sure of it. But what did it mean? Was it related to the Super Full Moon and Partial Lunar Eclipse at 25º47`of Pisces, conjunct Neptune?
I was sure this meant something important, a message from the Universe. But what? I texted Arthur, who is an astrologer and empath. While I waited for a reply, I looked up the Sabian Symbol: A new moon that divides its influences. 3 Now what does that mean, I wondered?
Pisces 26 (25°- 26°) FREEDOM OF CHOICE
Civilization demands conformity but the soul requires freedom to choose what comes next "Exercise your free will"
I had a flash of intuition, maybe Cheech and Chong were urging me to revisit my past, reevaluate my choices, and perhaps even make new ones. The "new moon" mentioned in the symbol could signify a fresh start or a new chapter in my life. Hmmm, I wondered what Arthur would have to say.
Arthur texted back reminding me that an eclipse such as this likely represents significant turning points or emotional upheavals on both a personal level and a collective level. Arthur asked me where 26 Pisces fell in my natal chart. I looked, it was in my 5th House.
Arthur explained that since 26 Pisces fell in my 5th House, the eclipse could lead to a spiritual awakening or a burst of creativity. I found it amusing that Cheech and Chong might be the catalyst for a spiritual journey. A burst of creativity, such as this story might be more like it.
I asked Arthur where 26 Pisces fell in his chart. "The tenth," Arthur replied. "This may be a turning point for me. I may finally find a more meaningful or fulfilling career, one that aligns more closely with my soul's purpose. Or perhaps an opportunity to use my talents to make a positive impact on the world."
I began to ponder the broader implications of this eclipse. Where did it fall in the U.S. Sibley chart? ( an astrological chart used to analyze the collective energies and events of a nation, state, or other geographical region). 4
I asked Arthur. He said it fell in the 3rd House and predicted the country may experience political, social, economic, and cultural shifts over the course of the next few weeks. ”In essence, it may catalyze a collective shift in consciousness. Arthur continued. "It has the potential to ignite a collective awakening and a shift towards a more compassionate, intuitive, and connected world." We can only hope, right?
While all of this was interesting, I kept wondering, “Why Cheech and Chong?” The best I could come up with is that they have become archetypal figures who represent rebellion, freedom, and a carefree spirit. Maybe it was time to get back in touch with this type of energy? Not just me, but everyone on the planet.
